Private Female Pelvic Ultrasound Scan
No GP referral needed. CQC rated Good. Over 30 years' experience. Written report within 24 hours.
A pelvic ultrasound looks at the uterus (womb), the lining of the womb, and the ovaries. It is used to find the cause of pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding and other gynaecological symptoms. We do not offer pregnancy scans.
Common reasons for this scan:
-
Pelvic pain or painful periods
-
Heavy, irregular or abnormal bleeding
-
Suspected fibroids, ovarian cysts or polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome
-
Checking the position of a coil (IUD)
-
Bloating or pelvic pressure
-
Follow-up of a previous scan
How to prepare:
A comfortable full bladder is needed for the first part of the scan. Please drink 2 pints of water in the hour before your appointment and do not empty your bladder until after the scan.
What happens during the scan:
The scan usually takes around 20 to 30 minutes. The first part of the scan is carried out on the lower abdomen. Then, after emptying your bladder, an internal (transvaginal) scan is placed inside the vagina. This will provide a clearer view of your pelvic organs. The procedure will be explained first and is only done with your signed consent. A female chaperone will be present. You are free to decline the internal part of your scan. A written report follows.
When to seek urgent help:
Sudden severe pelvic pain, heavy bleeding with dizziness, or pain when you might be pregnant needs urgent medical assessment. Bleeding after the menopause should be reviewed by a doctor promptly.
Price & Booking:
A female pelvis scan is £150. Two areas are £199. Book online and choose the clinic and time that suit you, or call 07907 594411 if you would like to talk to us first.
