Private Hip Ultrasound Scan
No GP referral needed. CQC rated Good. Over 30 years' experience. Written report within 24 hours.
Hip ultrasound assesses the tendons, bursae and soft tissues around the hip, and can show fluid within the joint. It is particularly useful for pain on the outside of the hip and for snapping or clicking.
Common reasons for this scan:
-
Pain on the outer side of the hip (gluteal tendinopathy or trochanteric bursitis)
-
Snapping or clicking hip (iliopsoas tendon)
-
Fluid or inflammation within the hip joint
-
Groin or thigh pain where a tendon problem is suspected
-
Hamstring origin or adductor tendon pain
-
Lumps or swelling around the hip
How to prepare:
No preparation is needed. Please wear loose clothing that can be adjusted to expose the hip and upper thigh.
What happens during the scan:
The scan usually takes around 20 to 30 minutes. You will be asked to lie on your back and then on your side, and the sonographer may ask you to move the leg to see the tendons working. A written report follows.
