Knee ultrasound is a fast way to look at the tendons, ligaments, bursae and fluid around the knee. Scans are carried out in real time, so we can assess the knee while it moves.
Common reasons for this scan:

Knee swelling or fluid in the joint

Baker's cyst behind the knee

Patellar or quadriceps tendon pain (jumper's knee)

How to prepare:
No preparation is needed. Please wear shorts or loose trousers that roll up above the knee.
What happens during the scan:
The scan usually takes around 20 to 30 minutes. The sonographer examines the front, sides and back of the knee with the leg in different positions. A written report follows.
