Private Hand and Finger Ultrasound Scan
No GP referral needed. CQC rated Good. Over 30 years' experience. Written report within 24 hours.
The tendons, ligaments and joints in the hand lie close to the skin, which makes ultrasound very good at showing them. A scan can find the cause of a painful, swollen or locked finger, or of a lump in the hand.
Common reasons for this scan:
-
Osteo & Rheumatoid Arthritis
-
Thumb ligament injuries (such as skier's or gamekeeper's thumb)
-
Lumps in the palm or fingers, including ganglion cysts
-
Tendon injuries after a cut or a sporting injury
-
Painful finger joints and swelling
-
Suspected foreign body in the soft tissues
How to prepare:
No preparation is needed. Please remove watches and rings if possible.
What happens during the scan:
The scan usually takes around 20 minutes. Gel is applied to the hand & fingers and the sonographer examines each area, often asking you to move your fingers so that the tendons can be seen gliding. A written report follows.
