Private Foot Ultrasound Scan
No GP referral needed. CQC rated Good. Over 30 years' experience. Written report within 24 hours.
Ultrasound is well suited to the soft tissues of the foot. It can assess the plantar fascia under the heel, the nerves and tissues between the toes, toe joints & the tendons and any lumps or swelling.
Common reasons for this scan:
-
Heel pain, including plantar fasciitis
-
Pain between the toes, such as Morton's neuroma
-
Lumps or swelling on the top or sole of the foot
-
Tendon pain or swelling
-
Suspected plantar plate or ligament injury
-
Foreign body in the foot, such as a splinter or glass
-
Toe joint pathology, including osteo and rheumatoid arthritis.
How to prepare:
No preparation is needed. Please wear footwear that is easy to remove.
What happens during the scan:
The scan usually takes around 20 minutes. The sonographer scans the painful area, sometimes pressing gently or moving the toes to reproduce your symptoms. A written report follows.
What ultrasound can and cannot show
Ultrasound does not show the bones in detail. If a fracture or stress fracture is suspected, an X-ray or MRI is the right test, and we will tell you if that is the case.
